The first champion of Season III of the Card Player Poker Tour is just beyond the horizon. The title, just over $94,000 in prize money and the trophy will be awaiting the winner at the completion of the tournament Monday night, but before that can happen the final table must get underway.

Day 2 of the three-day tournament began Sunday afternoon with 98 players returning to chip stacks and when the final hand was dealt for the night, only 14 remained.

Fred Paradis picked up a commanding lead late in day 2 when he eliminated multiple players and climbed to over the seven-figure mark. Paradis has four career titles, but a major main event win eludes him. A known figure among the northeast poker rooms, a win in the main event would be by far the largest cash of his career. Paradis bagged up 1.55 million at the end of the night. Dillipkumar Patel and Jay Feingold ended the night with the exact same amount of chips at 987,000. Dave Stefanski ended the night with 767,000.

Throughout the day the likes of Chris Tryba, Greg Raymer, Victor Ramdin and Roland Israelashvili were sent to the rail; Tryba shy of the money, Raymer as the 17th place finisher for $4,923, Ramdin with one buy-in back after chopping the first money spot with Dusean Brown and Israelashvili with a min-cash. Day 2 chipleader Todd Mitchell and Foxwoods regular Steve “Dakota” Happas were also eliminated before the end of the day.

Play will resume at 12 pm EST Monday and when nine are left, a live web-stream of the final table complete with commentary will be available on cardplayer.com.
