The Horseshoe Cincinnati announced today that the upcoming World Series of Poker Circuit series, scheduled to run from March 19 – 30, has been cancelled.
Shannon Mortland, Caesars’ Director of Public Relations for the Ohio Region, said in a press release that, “While the casino had tremendous success with its inaugural involvement in the WSOPC tour in 2013, logistical and scheduling difficulties will prevent Horseshoe from hosting WSOPC at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
The 2013 hosting of the Circuit that Mortland mentioned drew an impressive 740 players for it’s $1,675 main event, building a prize pool of $1,110,000 and awarding $221,994 to eventual champion Brad Albrinck, an Ohio native.
This will not the first time that an Ohio-based casino has had to nix plans for a WSOP Circuit event. The Horseshoe Cleveland was to have been on the Circuit in 2013, but those plans were canceled when state regulators refused to allow use of a ballroom at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel for the tournament series.
The Horseshoe Cleveland opened in 2012 and the Horseshoe Cincinnati in 2013 following an Ohio state constitutional amendment in 2009 authorizing casinos to be built in the state’s four largest cities: Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo.
