Jesse Rockowitz is the zone. Fresh off a runner-up finish in the World Poker Tour Rolling Thunder $3,500 main event, Rockowitz, also a World Series of Poker bracelet winner, bagged the chiplead on Day 1A of the Card Player Poker Tour Atlantis main event.
The Northern California native is poised to make yet another deep run, putting away 191,100 in chips for the night, and add to his nearly $1.3 million in live tournament winnings.
Dustin Fox finished behind Rockowitz in the chip counts (113,800), and is well on his way to becoming the first player to finish in the money three years in a row in the CPPT Atlantis main event. Tanya Kirk has also finished in the money the past two years, but she was absent from the field on Day 1A.
A few of the players sent packing before the night was over included Jerry Morrell, who finished runner-up in this event in 2013, Randy Gill, who won this event in 2012, Ed Miller, Mike Harvey, Zak Gilbert, Shawn Daniels and Ivan Holmes.
Day 1B will begin at 12 pm Saturday. Players will start with 12,000 in chips with the option to purchase an additional 3,000 with a $20 staff bonus add-on. Play will last for 10 one-hour levels with a 60-minute dinner break after Level 6. Players who survived Day 1A can still play in Day 1B by utilizing the best stack forward option. Both days will combine on Sunday and play down to a winner.
