Major League Baseball DFS Starts Next Week

Aside from NFL season, because everyone knows the NFL is king, the time from the start of March Madness through the NBA Playoffs is in my opinion the most exciting time of year for the DFS industry.

Basketball

Many sites offered very cool NCAA tournament contests, including the FanDuel Survive the Madness event, a survivor style tournament that spanned eight days of NCAA action and paid a $40,000 first-place prize. In addition, the NBA is sprinting toward the finish line with all sorts of wild action seemingly every night. A few players are consistently turning in absurdly good performances, making the DFS experience quite a bit more fun.

PGA

And I haven’t even gotten to the really juicy stuff that’s highlighting this time of year. I’m talking, of course, about golf. Golf? Golf. The DraftKings PGA $2.2 Millionaire Maker is coming up next week and will be running in concert with the most famous golf tournament in the world, The Masters. I’ve personally been stockpiling tickets into this $20 buy-in event to try to give myself as many cracks at it as I can. The Millionaire Maker concept being in effect for The Masters is going to make watching this tournament even more enjoyable than it is every year.

Last week, during the Valero Open at TPC San Antonio, I slapped together a PGA lineup on DraftKings just for fun. Lo and behold, all six of my golfers made the cut and a strong Saturday showing left me in contention in the seven or eight GPPs I entered the team into. Talk about livening up a random Sunday of golf! I was fist pumping right along with my guys as I pushed toward the top of the leaderboards. At the end of the day, I compiled a pair of first-place finishes, a pair of seconds, and a tenth-place finish out of 4,200 in the $100k Fairway tournament, coming up a few points shy of a $15,000 payday. Not bad for a newbie.

MLB Opening Day

On top of all this excitement, MLB opening day is Monday, Apr. 6th. I loved baseball growing up and was fully immersed in it until the age of 15. For one reason or another, I completely lost touch with it around then and pretty much blocked it out for the better part of the next 15 years. Last year, I decided to give MLB DFS a shot on opening day. I’m not certain, but I wouldn’t be shocked if I played every day of the season.

For me, MLB DFS is extremely fun due to the rush you get when one of your players does something that will alter the course of your night, like hitting a home run or a bases clearing double. From a DFS perspective, MLB is a firework show compared to the slow grind of NBA. Now I love NBA DFS so I’m not trying to knock it, but baseball offers a different breed of excitement and I for one can’t wait for opening day.
