A 25-year-old woman has been convicted of manslaughter in last year’s murder of high-stakes poker player Mehmet Hassan, 56, which resulted from the woman’s boyfriend and another accomplice beating him in his U.K. flat for his gambling winnings.
The two male co-defendants, Kyrron Jackson, 28, and Nicholas Chandler, 29, were convicted of murder. Leonie Granger admitted she had been involved in a plan to rob Hassan. However, she claimed she was not involved in his murder and didn’t know it was going to happen. The jury believed her story to some extent and convicted her of a lesser charge.
All three will be sentenced later this month.
Granger, a care assistant from Gillingham, Kent who told Hassan that her name was Rachel, met the victim at the Mayfair Casino and quickly befriended him.
When the family of the victim was reading their statements to the court, Chandler stood up and uttered profanities. Officers subdued him and restored order to the court.
The defendants made a video of themselves throwing money around in Hassan’s flat.
