The Daily Show host Jon Stewart criticized New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in an airing of the show yesterday (video below) which featured commentary on the marijuana issue. Christie, a Republican, is, predictably, against the legalization of marijuana, even at the state level.

Stewart basically called Christie a hypocrite for legalizing online gaming and sports betting, though the latter hasn’t been implemented, while being against regulated pot. However, in making this point, Stewart implied that online gaming violates federal law, which it does not. He also implied that online gaming leads to physical violence in society.

“There is a difference [between marijuana and online gaming], to be fair,” Stewart said. “You smoke too much pot, no one comes to break your f—king knees.”

Stewart also made no distinction between online gaming, which includes poker, and sports betting. New Jersey has been challenged in federal court over sports betting, but not online casino games. Online betting was given the green light by the Department of Justice in 2011.

To be fair, Stewart is considered a comedian, but still. Congress is currently considering a nationwide ban on online poker that the poker community has been rallying against.

Christie, a presidential candidate, will likely face similar lazy criticism about online gaming going forward. He signed a bill to legalize it in 2013, and the industry has ran without issue.

Stewart’s last appearance on The Daily Show will be on Aug. 6.
