The energy inside Maho Bay, St. Maarten’s Casino Royale was high as the final table of the inaugural Card Player Poker Tour St. Maarten main event played out to the sounds of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in the background.
The 138-player $1,650 no-limit hold’em $200,000 guarantee main event came down to local players Enrici Christophe and Benichou Paul, and Toronto-native Andrew Fair. The three players made a deal to give Christophe, the chip leader at the time, the trophy, the CPPT title and $37,950. Paul and Fair each took home $31,000 with second place going to Paul as he had more chips than Fair. Christophe also received 264 Card Player Player of the Year points.
Card Player’s own Allyn Shulman finished fifth for $11,850, bringing her all-time CPPT winnings to over $326,000. Shulman was the lone former CPPT champion in the tournament, having won the CPPT Venetian Deepstacks $5,000 main event in 2013. Day 1A chipleader Mark Stephen Edwards finished ninth, while Day 1B chipleader Mark Gregorich finished eighth.
With his win, Christophe is the fifth champion of Season III of the CPPT, joining Fred Paradis (Foxwoods – $81,520), Maxim Sorokin (Wynn – $101,619), Nick Weinberg (Atlantis – $38,625) and Chan Pelton (Choctaw – $130,455).
