Georgia lawmakers are considering allowing casinos to come to their state, and the discussions have prompted MGM Resorts to propose a $1 billion casino in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

MGM is currently in the middle of projects in Massachusetts and near Washington D.C.

The issue could go before Georgia voters this fall. MGM reportedly has hired lobbyists to push the issue, giving indication that this year offers a legitimate possibility. Past efforts to legalize casinos in Georgia had failed.

According to masslive.com, MGM’s project in Springfield has delayed its opening until late 2018. MGM’s casino at National Harbor is scheduled to open next year.

No artist rendering of the proposed Atlanta casino has been released yet.
