The $1,111 Little One For One Drop event at the 2015 World Series of Poker was a huge success, drawing a massive field of 4,555 entries and creating a total prize pool of $4,099,500.
While the charity raised a lot of money, those who played had their sights set solely on the bracelet and the top prize of $645,969. After all of the dust had settled, it was German student Paul Hoefer from Leipzig who came away with the title and his first career bracelet.
The 24-year-old ran over his competition at the final table. In fact, he was able to knock out his final four opponents in a series of just five hands.
“I did make it look easy,” Hoefer said. “There’s no question I ran super good. But I played good, I think. When you play good and the cards hit you, that’s an unstoppable combination. It’s really unbelievable to win and have all my friends here with me. The German poker community is super. We have been very tight-knit for a couple of years now. We are like a family.”
The final table featured two German players, five American players and one player each from Argentina and Taiwan. Among the notables to make a deep run in the event were Brett Shaffer (9th), Chris Hunichen (10th), Geoffrey Rasmussen (16th), Tom West (23rd), Zhen Cai (25th), Xuan Liu (28th), Matt Stout (30th), Michael Katz (33rd) and Steve Merrifield (34th).
