A new record for Maryland casinos was set in July, as the properties had $99 million in gaming revenue, according to figures released this week by state gaming regulators. That’s the amount of money won from gamblers at all the games.
There are five casinos in the state. The Horseshoe Casino Baltimore opened in August of last year and is a big reason why gaming revenue increased 30.2 percent year-over-year.
Excluding that casino, revenue decreased from July 2014 by $1,419,010, or 1.9 percent.
The previous monthly gaming revenue high for Maryland was $96.3 million in May of this year.
The other casinos in the state are the Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, Casino at Ocean Downs in Worcester County, Maryland Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.
Maryland Live! accounted for $56,949,080 of July’s $99 million.
In 2014, Maryland had the 13th largest commercial casino gambling market in the country, but that excludes large tribal gaming markets like California and Oklahoma.
Maryland will have another huge boost when MGM’s $1.2 billion casino at National Harbor opens. MGM National Harbor is slated to open in the second half of 2016.
