You just don’t see big daily fantasy sports freerolls for preseason NFL games. Well, FantasyDraft is changing that tune with their $50,000 freeroll spanning the preseason NFL games taking place on Saturday, Aug. 22 and Sunday, Aug. 23. Players who finish in the PayoutZone will be receiving FantasyCash, which can be used to enter real money contests on the site. 2,500 players will finish in the PayoutZone in this freeroll and there are currently only 897 players registered as I write this on Thursday morning. You see where I’m going with this, right? This is a great opportunity for new players to get a head start on building a bankroll for DFS.

I like to fancy myself as someone who knows his way around the major sports pretty well for DFS purposes. Well, let’s throw all that out the window because preseason NFL DFS is nothing like regular season NFL DFS. You’ve got coaches taking long looks at their entire roster and players who are expected to play full time during the regular season can play as little as one or two series of plays. So while there will be numerous entries in this freeroll using players like Aaron Rodgers and Matt Forte, my hope is that those of you reading this will not be doing the same.

While I understand that coaches are not going to be playing their starters heavily, I’m not going to pretend to have great insight into which players coaches will use the most in preseason games. That would probably result in you tweeting at me and saying I’m an idiot because the third string running back for the Bears only got four carries for 14 yards and we don’t need that.

My best piece of advice to anyone playing this or any other preseason NFL DFS games over the next couple weeks is to do your homework. Read up on team blogs at NFL Nation. Study the box scores from the week 1 preseason games to try to gain some insight as to which players are getting long looks from coaches. Look at the betting lines from the sportsbooks. Yes, preseason betting lines.

Preseason NFL DFS is a real dart throw, but there are resources out there that can help you get a leg up on the competition. If you’re willing to put in a little effort, you can separate yourself from a big portion of the field and be in position to have an account stuffed with FantasyCash!

Thanks for reading, everyone. Find me on Twitter @IanJ300 with any questions.
