Daily Fantasy Sports: A Week 1 NFL SmorgasbordThe Season Starts Next Week! |

The time is (almost) upon us. We all love sports, but the NFL is just a different beast. The Daily Fantasy Sports landscape couldn’t possibly be any more reflective of this. Opening week is Sunday, Sept. 13 and the contests that are being offered by DFS sites are simply staggering.
We DFS players have a seemingly endless supply to choose from. Whether we want to play for one dollar or for thousands of dollars, there are options for us. With that in mind, I’m going to be offering up a rundown of what is on tap at various sites for opening week, highlighting the major tournament offerings and some others that are available.
Well they’ve really gone and done it in a pretty crazy way here. The DraftKings headliner is a $10 million guaranteed event with $2 million going to the winner that has an entry fee of $20. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. With an allotted 572,500 entries for this contest, the winner will have certainly pulled off some kind of feat to fend off the rest of the field. It is certainly going to be interesting to see if this tournament will fill or not so be on the lookout for overlay come Sunday morning. In addition to this massive event, DraftKings is offering a $3 entry fee tournament with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and numerous other tournaments with entry fees ranging from $0.25 to $5,300.

The staple weekly main event at FanDuel is the $25 entry fee NFL Sunday Million. The name brings me back to the glory years of Pokerstars. For opening week, the prize pool will be $5 million. $1 million will go to the winner and there will be approximately 229,885 players competing for the prizes. In addition, tournaments of all shapes and sizes can be found in the main lobby.

As you likely are aware, FantasyDraft is an up and coming DFS site that launched last year and is in its second season of NFL mayhem. Their headlining event for opening weekend is the $25 entry fee $250k guaranteed Run & Gun tournament. First place will be awarded $20,000. Instead of having to beat out literally hundreds of thousands of opponents to claim the top prize, you’ll be battling with just over 11,000 entrants. Also, keep in mind that FantasyDraft pays out 25 percent of the entrants in GPP tournaments, the highest percentage you will see as a standard in the industry. In addition, they limit the number of entries each user is allowed to have in their contests, which should help newcomers by not having to compete against top DFS players who have hundreds or even thousands of lineups in the biggest tournaments.

With opening week just around the corner, if you’re interested at all in playing NFL DFS, now is the time to jump in the water. This will be one of the biggest, if not the single biggest week for action in the entire DFS year. And with so many different sites and price points and tournament sizes to choose from, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a tournament fit to your liking. Heck, lots of people, myself included, will be on all of these sites playing in all the tournaments we can trying to find that perfect lineup. Week 1 of NFL season is a fantastic time to run good!
