Poker Players Gear Up For Start Of NFL Daily Fantasy Sports SeasonAn Increasing Amount Of Poker Players Are Trying Their Hand At Daily Fantasy Sports |

The NFL season kicks off Thursday night, and that means there is big money up for grabs this weekend for those who play Daily Fantasy Sports. While you might think that these huge guarantee contests are dominated by professional sports bettors, it’s actually poker players who making a big splash and taking home monster paydays.
In fact, last year alone poker pros Matt Smith and Ray Coburn both turned $27 buy-ins into $1 million each just for setting their NFL lineups.
The industry has gotten so huge that even online poker sites are getting involved. Here at Card Player, we even have our own DFS expert and WSOP bracelet winner Ian Johns, giving away valuable strategy tips that include positional strategies, process and routine, and ideas to sharpen your skills.
This year’s November Nine features poker pro and DFS savant Max Steinberg, who actually won his WSOP main event seat from a $27 buy-in DFS satellite. He’s already guaranteed to earn at least $1,001,020.
Despite millions in poker earnings, Steinberg spends the majority of his day playing DFS.
“I think the reason poker players seem to do well at DFS is that DFS isn’t as much about knowing football, basketball, or baseball, but more about figuring out how to beat the game,” said Steinberg. “Poker players learned how to do that with poker, and have an easier time learning having gone through this process already. I really am not an expert when it comes to football, but I’m very good at applying the knowledge that’s available to everyone into making winning DFS football lineups. But if you asked me, ‘do you think the Colts win this Sunday?’ I would tell you that I have no idea.”
The poker world just can’t stop buzzing about Daily Fantasy Sports!

If you don’t have a DFS account, don’t worry. Take a look at the options below.
Well they’ve really gone and done it in a pretty crazy way here. The DraftKings headliner is a $10 million guaranteed event with $2 million going to the winner that has an entry fee of $20. Yes, you read that sentence correctly. With an allotted 572,500 entries for this contest, the winner will have certainly pulled off some kind of feat to fend off the rest of the field. It is certainly going to be interesting to see if this tournament will fill or not so be on the lookout for overlay come Sunday morning. In addition to this massive event, DraftKings is offering a $3 entry fee tournament with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool and numerous other tournaments with entry fees ranging from $0.25 to $5,300.

Draftpot is changing fantasy sports by offering the same great game, but without the restrictions of a salary cap. With lower rakes, more sports, large guaranteed prize pools and incredible deposit bonuses, the site is primed to become an industry leader. The site is guaranteeing millions will be paid out in 2015, with $200,000 up for grabs during week 1 of the NFL season alone. While offering the same great game, Draftpot, in its Fan Mode, has eliminated the salary cap, enabling fans to choose, without limits, any players they want. And, in its GM Mode, Draftpot has made the traditional salary cap a more accurate and transparent reflection of players’ values using a points per game cap. Just $10 gets you into a contest with a $100,000 prize and $20 will enter you in a contest for $50,000.

As you likely are aware, FantasyDraft is an up and coming DFS site that launched last year and is in its second season of NFL mayhem. Their headlining event for opening weekend is the $25 entry fee $250k guaranteed Run & Gun tournament. First place will be awarded $20,000. Instead of having to beat out literally hundreds of thousands of opponents to claim the top prize, you’ll be battling with just over 11,000 entrants. Also, keep in mind that FantasyDraft pays out 25 percent of the entrants in GPP tournaments, the highest percentage you will see as a standard in the industry. In addition, they limit the number of entries each user is allowed to have in their contests, which should help newcomers by not having to compete against top DFS players who have hundreds or even thousands of lineups in the biggest tournaments.
