Draftpot: Week 5 NFL DFS PicksHere's Some Daily Fantasy Sports Tips From An Expert |
|
Over at Draftpot, there have been some great overlays for players to capitalize on in both the $100,000 guaranteed Touchdown tournament and the $40,000 guaranteed Spike tournament over these first few weeks. If you missed out, it may not be too late as they are running these tournaments again in week 5.
This week, I’ll be examining one player at each position in the GM mode that I believe to be severely underpriced. These players can really increase the upside of our lineups by allowing us to fit in all of the top plays of the weekend.
As always, we’ll be using Draftpot Points Per Game as our barometer, as that is the way Draftpot assigns “salaries” to players.

QB
Tyrod Taylor (8.35 DPPG) – For next to the minimum Draftpot price, you’re buying a quarterback who provides a high floor with his rushing at sits at number six in quarterback fantasy points per game through four weeks this season. Coming off a rough game that was salvaged by some garbage time heroics last week against the Giants, Taylor may even go a bit under owned in the Spike tournament. By setting him in your lineup, you’re paying less than half the price of the top quarterbacks on Draftpot for someone who has been right in the same league this season.
RB
Dion Lewis (6.40 DPPG) – By my estimation, Dion Lewis is one of the ten or so best running backs going in PPR right now. He’s playing a strong majority of the snaps for what is probably the best offense in the league. He is a fantastic receiver. Most players with that profile are being pulled in goal to go situations, but not Dion, as according to Pro Football Reference he already has five carries and two touchdowns inside the ten yard line in the first three games. I don’t see what’s not to like about Dion, including his bottom barrel price on Draftpot.
WR
Travis Benjamin (6.07 DPPG) – I’ll admit, I’m still a Travis Benjamin skeptic. However, with his recent uptick in usage (over 75 percent snap rate and 10 targets each of the last two games), you have to love him at this price on Draftpot. Cleveland is in a tough spot against a Ravens team this week that is stout against running backs and has absolutely silenced tight ends this season. They have, however, been touched up by wide receivers. While I won’t be dying to use Travis Benjamin this week, he’s tough to ignore here.
TE
Derek Carrier (4.00 DPPG) – Carrier has yet to make much of a splash as an NFL player. As such, he’s priced at the bare minimum price on Draftpot because he’s never exceeded 4.00 DPPG. That being said, the 25 year old hasn’t had much opportunity in his short career as he’s been saddled up behind Vernon Davis in San Francisco and now Jordan Reed in Washington. Well, Reed won’t be playing this weekend so Carrier will finally have an opportunity to flash his tremendous athletic ability. The matchup with the Falcons is also tasty in that teams tend to avoid Falcons cover man Desmond Trufant, so Carrier could be the beneficiary in the middle of the field.
