The action was fast and furious in the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe €1,100 no-limit hold’em turbo event. When the dust settled Georgios Sotiropoulos emerged victorious, earning his first WSOP gold bracelet and the €112,133 first-place prize for the win.
“It feels good,” Sotiropoulos told WSOP.com after the win. “It feels amazing. Winning a bracelet… it’s one of my dreams.”
Sotiropoulos became the third Greek player to ever win a gold bracelet, with all three of those wins happening during this year’s WSOP Europe festival at the Spielbank Berlin in Germany.
Sotiropoulos had to overcame a stacked final table on the way to the title, outlasting five players at the final table who have seven-figures in live tournament earnings. This year’s World Poker Tour Championship main event champion Asher Conniff was the first player to hit the rail at this final table (9th – $11,897). 2015 Card Player Player of the Year contender Byron Kaverman notched his twelfth final table finish of the year, earning $14,976 and 140 POY points for his eighth-place finish.
Brian Hastings won two WSOP gold bracelets this summer and had a chance to win the fourth of his career at this final table but ended up busting in seventh for $19,104. 2010 WSOP main event runner up John Racener was the last of the big-name stars at the final table. He ultimately finished sixth for $24,705.
Sotiropoulos scored a double knockout (sending 2015 WSOP bracelet winner Benjamin Zamani to the rail in third place) to set up a heads-up showdown with Paul Tedeschi. Sotiropoulos held the lead and quickly converted that into a title when his KQ beat Tedeschi’s A8 in an all-in preflop showdown. The final board ran out QJ3K6 to secure the pot and the title for Sotiropoulos.
