A cat shelter in Australia has been accused of using some of the money it raised, purportedly to help the animals, for online betting, according to various online media reports.

Help Save Furry Ones, a charity founded by Nicky Hocking (pictured right), reportedly has lost its licence over the allegations. “Consumer and Business Services (CBS) received information alleging that some of the funds raised by the charity for the care of animals were being transferred to a company associated with online casinos,” the local Liquor and Gambling Commissioner said in a statement.

“I have made a determination that the funds being raised for a charitable purpose were being mismanaged or misapplied, and the license was revoked," the regulator continued. “The operator of Help Save the Furry Ones is no longer allowed to solicit funds, and I would warn South Australians not to donate to this organization.”

Hocking, a former exotic dancer, has denied the allegations and said on social media that she “will clear our name of these allegations.”
