NBA Daily Fantasy Sports In Full SwingTips From A DFS Expert |
|
The NBA season is a little over a month in and Daily Fantasy Sports players who love basketball couldn’t be any happier. For me, the NBA takes the cake when it comes to DFS options. It has the perfect balance of predictability and excitement for my taste.
There are a few reasons playing NBA DFS is more predictable than other sports. The scoring is more linear, with plays like 50-yard touchdowns and home runs in other sports not greatly affecting the outcomes. In addition, figuring out a player’s worth is a little more straightforward. Theoretically, each player is worth some amount of fantasy points per minute and will play a fairly predictable amount of minutes. This can really help us hone in on a scoring projection for each player.
Finally, the NBA poses situations where cheaper value plays have an extreme amount of value due to injuries at a given position on his team for that night. Sometimes, you’ll have a minimum priced player who is a borderline lock to play 32 or more minutes in a given game.
This week I’m going to take a look around the league for situations that are currently offering value for NBA DFS players.
Boston Celtics
With Marcus Smart and David Lee sidelined, extra minutes have opened up for Isaiah Thomas and Jared Sullinger lately. They’ve both capitalized in a big way.
Charlotte Hornets
While the Hornets draw a tough matchup Wednesday with the Miami Heat, I’m giving Nicolas Batum a long look each night they play right now due to his increased role with the loss of Al Jefferson.
Dallas Mavericks
For as long as J.J. Barea and Devin Harris are sidelined, Raymond Felton is going to be someone in consideration as a value play.
Detroit Pistons
Andre Drummond is good. Right now, his price on DFS sites hasn’t quite caught up to his production and he is someone in consideration every night the Pistons play.
Golden State Warriors
Since the Harrison Barnes injury, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have picked up the slack and been good value. Stephen Curry is obviously from another planet and is always a DFS option.
Miami Heat
Goran Dragic was pretty much a disaster for the first month of the season for DFS purposes. He recently seems to have turned the corner and is someone I have my eye on.
Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo just turned 21 years old and is already a very good NBA player. I’m pretty convinced that he’s on his way to becoming a star and his DFS price will skyrocket at some point when he starts to put things together.
New Orleans Pelicans
If you’re new to NBA DFS, you’ll quickly find that not having Anthony Davis on a night the Pelicans play can ruin your night. This is not to say you need to use him every time they play, but he’s always always always on the radar.
New York Knicks
Kristaps Porzingis!!! Sorry, it’s easy to get carried away about this kid.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Kevin Durant is currently healthy and doing his thing. He is however a bit injury prone. If at any point he is not in the Thunder lineup, Russell Westbrook becomes the biggest must play in NBA DFS.
Phoenix Suns
Jon Leuer seems to have wrestled the starting power forward job from Markieff Morris and should be a good DFS value for the time being. Tyson Chandler has been hurt recently and Alex Len has filled in admirably. I’ll have my eye on Leuer and Len for as long as Chandler is hurt.
Utah Jazz
Gordon Hayward and Derrick Favors both make for strong plays most nights right now. Hayward played poorly to start the season and his price dropped accordingly. He seems to have righted the ship. Favors is seeing an uptick in minutes due to the Rudy Gobert injury.
Washington Wizards
These guys have suffered a rash of injuries in the frontcourt. They’ve suffered so many injuries in fact that they’ve pretty much been out of frontcourt players a few nights recently. So instead of looking at cheap value big men for them, I’ve been on backcourt mates John Wall and Bradley Beal quite a bit in DFS.
In NBA DFS, injury situations are extremely important to be aware of. Sometimes they benefit a player’s direct backup and other times there is a trickle down where injuries benefit some of the entrenched starters. Analyzing the situations and capitalizing on them is one of the fun parts of NBA DFS.
