Draftpot: Week 14 NFL DFS PicksHere's Some Daily Fantasy Sports Tips From An Expert |
|
This week, we’re going to have a look at pure upside in the Draftpot Fan Mode. To win tournaments in Fan Mode, where there is no salary cap, you need the best of the best players of the week to have a chance. Having a feel for which players have the most upside as opposed to which are the safest is important in this regard.

QB
Cam Newton – This year, the Panthers have been playing an up-tempo style at home that really enhances Cam’s upside. Couple that with the rushing upside Cam brings to the table and an Atlanta offense that could put some points on the board and I could see Cam having a really big game in this situation.
Russell Wilson – Similar to Cam, the rushing upside that Wilson possesses coupled with a good matchup really moves him up a notch when discussing upside. My biggest hesitation with Wilson is that Baltimore won’t be able to put up the points necessary to turn this game into the shootout we’re looking for when chasing upside. Russell has been hot as can be recently though, so I like him as an upside play this week.
RB
Lamar Miller – The Dolphins are the hardest team for me to peg from week to week, as evidenced by Ryan Tannehill following up a 58-attempt week 12 with 19 attempts in week 13. This leads to me liking the uber-talented Lamar Miller as an upside play for tournaments this week, but not trusting him in cash game lineups.
Doug Martin – Rarely is it a great idea to use Doug Martin in cash games, as he splits time with Charles Sims in Tampa Bay’s backfield and can disappear from games. He is having a stellar season, however, and has shown an ability to dominate a game multiple times this season. In a cupcake home matchup with New Orleans this week, Martin is a great bet for a big game.
WR
Alshon Jeffery – Here is a great opportunity to use Alshon at super low ownership in a tournament. Surely, people will be off him after he struggled last week. Don’t be deterred, though, because a big game is coming soon.
Odell Beckham Jr. – It’s hard to argue that any receiver has more upside than Beckham right now. He’s playing at a ridiculously high level and this week will square off with a Miami secondary that leaves a lot to be desired. Beckham also seems to be in the middle of a similar hot stretch to the one he had last year.
TE
Greg Olsen – There isn’t a tight end, save for the injured Rob Gronkowski, who is playing as well as Olsen right now. He’s such a huge part of Carolina’s offense and it’s very clear when you watch the Panthers play that Cam Newton trusts Olsen more than any of his receivers. When a tight end has that kind of rapport with his quarterback, he makes for a great DFS play.
Jordan Reed – Reed seems to have these games where Washington falls behind and before you know it he’s amassed 11 catches and over 100 yards and sometimes he gets in the endzone to boot. He’s unlike most tight ends in that way as he’s used so frequently in all parts of the field. Really, he’s just a bigger receiver similar to Antonio Gates. So it’s nice to be able to use him at the tight end position.
