The 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25,000 no-limit hold’em high roller drew a field of 225 entries, with 173 unique players and 52 re-entries building a $5.4 million total prize pool. In the end the lion’s share of that went to Nick Maimone, who busted every single player at the final table to capture the title and $996,480.
The 29-year-old came into the final day of this event in fourth chip position with nine players remaining, but after eliminating every player from ninth place down to heads-up he took a roughly 4-to-3 chip advantage into the final showdown against 2014 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville main event champion and rising tournament star Sean Winter.
Before the heads-up play began the final two players struck a deal that left the title, the trophy and $30,000 to play for while locking up at least $966,480 for Maimone and $914,580 for Winter.
Maimone was able to quickly extend his lead and not long after heads-up began Winter got all-in with the K10 against maimone’s AK. The board ran out 933Q9 to give Maimone the ace-high flush, securing the pot and the title in the process.
Maimone was also awarded 1,344 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was already his second final table of 2016, having finished fifth in a $5,300 prelim earlier at the PCA for $10,580 and 100 points. With this win he has surged up the leaderboard and now occupies the third spot in the rankings. Winter scored 1,120 points to climb to fifth in the POY standings.
