Last year's $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker main event attracted a field of 8,773 and hundreds of them qualified through online satellites for what less than what it costs to buy a Happy Meal.

In 2006, the main event's first place prize was $12 million and is expected to be even more this year. Several sites are making it possible for players to go from rags to riches by offering satellites for small buy-ins.

Players can qualify for the main event through any one of three paths on Poker Stars. On the "cash direct path," players start at a $2 turbo-rebuy satellite to enter a $33 rebuy tournament that gives away at least one $12,000 WSOP package daily. The package includes the $10,000 buy-in and $2,000 for expenses.

For those single-table specialists, there is a "shootout path." Satellites start with a $5.50 turbo-rebuy. Winning will get players into a $160 daily tournament that guarantees at least one WSOP package.

The third path is the weekly cash satellites. Once a week, Poker Stars runs a $615 buy-in satellite to the main event. Players can qualify for this tournament through $3 rebuy, $11 rebuy, $16 double shootout, $27 tournament, $27 rebuy, or a $27 turbo-rebuy.

Full Tilt's WSOP direct satellites include the Sunday $216 buy-in, $1,000 Thursday satellite, and the Tuesday $322 tournament, but can be satellited into for as little as $4.40. All of these direct satellites can be qualified for by playing in a number of different $26 tournaments. The $26 buy-in tournament satellites include $13.75 heads-up, $8.70 two-table, $6.60 six-person, $4.40 single-table, and $6.50 multi-table tournaments.

Players can win a $12,000 WSOP package through Bodog for as little as $1. Every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday, Bodog runs a $270 direct satellite for WSOP seats. This tournament can be satellited into by either $29 tournament that takes place twice daily, a $16 rebuy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, or a once-daily $7.50 rebuy on Monday through Thursday. The $29 tournament seats can be won through daily a $1.50 or $5.50 freezeout or a $1 rebuy tournament.
