MGM Casino In Massachusetts Clears Another HurdleNew Casino Plan Finally Given OK By Springfield |

It’s hard to keep tabs on just how many approvals MGM Resorts has accumulated along the way for its upcoming $950 million casino in Springfield, Massachusetts. However, the casino operator cleared a big one Monday when the Springfield City Council signed off on changes to the casino’s design.
According to Masslive.com, the council voted 12-1 in favor of the new site plan and 12-1 in favor of amendments to the host community agreement.
Though the investment for the casino increased by $150 million in recent months, MGM decided to scale back non-gaming components to the property. Council members originally expressed concern about the changes, especially the 25-story hotel tower being reduced to six stories. The casino complex will still have 250 hotel rooms despite the reduction.
The gaming floor will still have 3,000 slot machines, 75 table games and a poker room.
MGM Springfield is expected to open by September 2018. MGM said last week that its new $3 billion casino in Macau will be delayed until early next year.
