Judge: Financial Adviser In Caesars Bankruptcy Case Was Literally 'Sleeping With The Enemy'Woman Hired By Caesars Had An Affair With Attorney For The Company |

The Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection process for an operating unit of Caesars Entertainment Corp., owner of the World Series of Poker, just got a little bit more complicated, as it was revealed in court documents that a restructuring adviser for the casino operator had an extra-marital affair with a lawyer for Caesars, according to Reuters.
The bankruptcy, which involves $18 billion worth of debt, began more than a year ago and has seen high-powered creditors allege some financial misconduct from Caesars. The company is currently working on a revised bankruptcy plan, the report said.
Financial adviser Melissa Knoll and her team were hired in 2014 to help probe the creditor allegations. A court document from last month revealed that Knoll and the lawyer for Caesars, Vincent Lazar, were romantically involved.
“She was sleeping with the enemy,” Judge Benjamin Goldgar said last month.
Though Knoll and her team said that their investigation was unbiased, the judge said he couldn’t be sure Knoll had not shared critical information with Lazar.
Knoll’s investigation was discarded by Judge Goldgar because of the conflict of interest, which came just a couple of week’s before a deadline for a revised bankruptcy plan that could be approved this fall.
