Magazine Eyeing Potential Las Vegas Casino That Would Serve Cannabis: Report'High Times' Thinks One Day There Could Be A Casino With Legal Pot |

The booming legal marijuana industry in America could help pave the way for a casino in Las Vegas that would serve cannabis, according to a report from The New York Times.
The decades-old magazine High Times is looking to capitalize on a market that reached $2.7 billion in 2014, and that includes a push into nightlife. The NYT reported that the media company is “deep in talks with partners” for cannabis-consumption lounges in Colorado and in Las Vegas, though Nevada currently only has medical marijuana.
According to the report, the company said that its partners have secured a cabaret license, a gambling license, as well as approval for an off-site dispensary in anticipation of a possible future where a “High Times hotel and casino” is allowed in the gambling capital of America.
Legalizing and taxing recreational marijuana use is on the November ballot in Nevada, according to ballotpedia.org. The issue is called Question 2.
In 2014, Nevada gaming regulators actually banned casino licensees from getting involved with the medical marijuana business because of the issues with federal law, so the High Times casino might be a very long ways away, unless it’s legalized federally.
The marijuana industry in Nevada got the attention of poker legend Phil Ivey, who was one of many people who applied for approval from the city to open a dispensary.
According to KNPR, Nevada currently has 22 dispensaries, with the majority in Southern Nevada. It took 15 years after medical marijuana was approved in 2000 before the first dispensary opened.
