Kentucky Becomes Latest State With Online LottoGames Can Be Played Online In The Commonwealth |

Despite being hostile toward online poker, the state of Kentucky has approved, and now launched, lottery games for the Internet.
According to a report from The Courier-Journal, the state’s lottery now has eight different games that can be played online, with a monthly customer spending limit of $1,000.
“To maintain our business, we need to be more attractive to a younger demographic who are accustomed to conducting a majority of their retail purchases online,” Arch Gleason, president and CEO of the Kentucky Lottery, said in a press release.
The Kentucky Lottery is projected to have nearly $1 billion in revenue for the current fiscal year, the report said.
That figure is not much more than what a Kentucky judge last year ordered PokerStars to fork over for offering poker games to Kentuckians in the past. PokerStars, the world’s leading online poker site in terms of players, called the judgement “notable only for its absurdity.”
PokerStars is appealing the judgement, and it’s using a victory in a similar case in an Illinois federal court to fight against Kentucky’s use of a centuries old statute to “recover [the] alleged gaming losses” of its residents.
The state of Michigan, which also has an online lottery, is going the route of possibly regulating online casinos, rather than taking a hard stance against them.
