On Apr. 24, Americas Cardroom ran our first $1,000,000 GTD Million Dollar Sunday of the year and many experts were predicting another overlay, just like the seven we ran in 2015.
But guess what? We not only covered the tournament, but did it in a pretty sizable fashion with 2,118 total entrants combining for a $1,059,000 prize pool. The reasons for our success can’t be pinpointed to just one thing. Instead, it has to do with a number of changes and improvements we’ve made to our tournament action.
The changes begin with a new weekly tournament schedule, with every day from Monday through Saturday having a different theme. For example, our Saturday Six Pack has $33,000 in extra guaranteed prize pools ready to be “consumed”!
Sundays are still the can’t-miss day as it includes both a Hold’em ($115,000 GTD) and PLO ($35,000 GTD) Sunday Special. The Hold’em one is the biggest weekly Sunday major of any of the US facing sites.
Another big change took place in early April with an upgraded Tournament User Interface. Some of the major features in the release include hand for hand dealing, On-Table Tournament Statistics Display, On-Table In-The-Money Symbol, and Synchronized breaks.
Perhaps the biggest change in the new Tournament User Interface is our Progressive Payouts. Players now get paid as soon as they’re in the money, not having to wait until the end of a tourney. This comes in handy as funds are now available to quickly get into other events.
Our final big change is upping the frequency of our Tournament Series. Already so far in 2016, we’ve hosted the $150,000 GTD Freebuy Super Series III (all events free to enter), the $840,000 GTD High Five Tournament Series, and the most recent $2.5 Million GTD Online Super Series VI that included the Million Dollar Sunday.
