MGM Wastes No Time After State Approval, Begins Construction On Springfield CasinoCasino Expected To Open In Fall 2018 |

MGM Resorts International has began building a massive parking garage that will accompany its Las Vegas-style casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Associated Press reported Monday that foundation work for the 3,400-space garage will begin this week, which is just days after the state Gaming Commission approved the project’s redesign.
The parking garage will be finished in about 20 months, and the casino itself will open in fall 2018. This week’s work on the parking garage marks a major milestone for the state, which doesn’t have any Las Vegas-style casinos yet. A 2011 law allowed for three of them, along with a slots parlor. So far, only the slots parlor has opened.
Prior to getting the final MGC approval, MGM already did work to move a 129-year-old church that was sitting where MGM Springfield’s gaming floor will be located.
Ground was officially broken in March 2015, but the project was delayed after MGM redesigned the property. Both Springfield and the state needed to re-examine the project.
