The $2.4 billion Atlantic City casino that closed in 2014 will begin its gradual comeback on June 15, its owner said this week.
According to the Associated Press, Revel casino owner Glenn Straub said that 900 of the property’s 1,600 hotel rooms will become available to stay in this month. Straub is hoping to have the gaming floor reopened by August, the report said.
The property won’t be called Revel. Straub hasn’t yet revealed the new name. He has called it a “recreation-based facility along with [a] casino,” which means that the facility will focus more on non-gaming amenities this time around.
Straub bought the casino in 2015 for just four cents on the dollar. He’s extremely bullish on Atlantic City, telling Forbes recently that “Atlantic City is a perfect place to put money.”
His license from the state Division of Gaming Enforcement is still pending.
Revel opened in 2012 and never turned a profit in less than three years in business.
