Police in China say that gambling debts caused a man to become so distraught that he decided to explode a beer bottle full of firecrackers at the Pudong International Airport in Shanghai on Sunday.
The attack resulted in minor injuries to four bystanders, while the man, Zhou Xingbo, slashed his own throat with a knife and remains in critical condition at a hospital, according to The New York Times.
Zhou is a 29-year-old from Guizhou Province in southwest China who reportedly owed a lot of people money from a gambling addiction.
Zhou threw the home-made bomb into a crowd of passengers near a check-in counter, police said. The injuries came from shards of glass.
