Saturday saw the second of two starting flights take place in the 2016 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville. With 182 total entries on day 1B, the field easily surpassed the $200,000 guarantee.
When combined with the 107 entries on day 1A, a total of 289 players made their way to the North Florida cardroom, creating a prize pool of $280,330. The final 37 players will make the money and earn at least $1,678, but Monday night’s winner will take home the lion’s share of the prizes with $61,136.
After 14 levels of play, just 69 runners remain. Those players will return to the poker room on Sunday to battle down to the money, and then the final table, which will be streamed live on Card Player.
The chip leader to end the night was Austin Peck. The 20-year-old poker pro who resides in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida was sitting with just an average stack going into the final orbit of the night, but managed to more than double up when he turned a king-high straight and got paid off by pocket queens.
The massive pot vaulted him past 13 players ahead of him on the leaderboard and because he bagged up with most chips, he earned a $1,500 bonus. The other bonus went to Scott Risi on day 1A, who finished with 204,000.
The players will return to blinds of 1,500-3,000 with a 500 ante. The average stack is sitting at about 104,500, which will be worth 35 big blinds.
