The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) said this week that tribal casinos across America won $29.9 billion from gamblers in FY2015.
The figure is a record for the casinos.
The amount was also a five-percent increase over FY2014, the biggest gain for the industry in a decade. Revenues had ticked up slightly over the past six years after falling between FY2008 and FY2009, thanks to the recession.
There were a total of 474 tribal gaming operations during 2015, according to the NIGC.
The California-Norther Nevada region remained the top tribal gaming market in the country in 2015, with $7.9 billion of the $29.9 billion. It also saw the largest year-over-year gains with an eight-percent uptick compared to FY2014.
The bulk of the overall revenue came from tribal gaming operations with greater than $250 million in annual gaming win. There were 31 operations with at least $250 million in gaming revenue, and they accounted for more than $13.4 billion in revenue in FY2015.
“The strong regulation that tribes as well as federal regulators and other stake holders provides has played a key role in the stability and growth of the Indian gaming industry by providing consistency and predictability,” NIGC Chairman Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri said.
Indian gaming funds social services, public works, education, housing, health care, emergency services, public safety and cultural presentation programs.
Chaudhuri added that the Indian gaming industry is in a period of “tremendous growth and advancement.” Same goes for the commercial of America’s gambling industry.
The commercial casino industry in the United States reported $40.2 billion in gaming revenue in calendar year 2015, which was an all-time high.
