Vanessa Selbst and Daniel Negreanu are two of the most successful tournament poker players in the history of the game. On September 27th the two will be battling it out on the felt, but this time instead of aiming for a title or a big payday the two are participating in the second annual benefit poker night for the Urban Justice Center (UJC), one of New York’s oldest and most prominent legal service organizations. Selbst, who is a UJC board member, will host the “Justice is Blinds” event at Capitale in New York City. The event officially starts at 7 p.m. local time, with a VIP hour beginning at 6.

“The Urban Justice Center is comprised of innovative people who do fantastic and absolutely necessary work,” said Selbst. “With top pros in attendance, food and drink aplenty, and a PCA package up for grabs, this is going to be one you won’t want to miss!”

As Selbst mentioned, the top prize in the “Blinds & Justice” tournament is a trip to the annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure series worth $11,000. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit UJC, which has served New York City’s most vulnerable residents through direct legal service, systemic advocacy, community education and political organizing for 30 years.

Daniel NegreanuSelbst, the highest earning female poker player in history with over $10.8 million in career cashes, enlisted the help of all-time money leader Daniel Negreanu for this tournament. The two-time Card Player Player of the Year with over $31.4 million in earnings is not only one of the game’s best players but also one of it’s best-liked stars. Negreanu will be in attendance and is sure to help create a fun and exciting atmosphere.

“Poker has become the most popular way to raise money for charity events globally,” said Negreanu. “I’m honored and happy to support Vanessa Selbst in her efforts to raise money and awareness for the Urban Justice Center. It’s great to see so many poker players finding ways to contribute to society in a meaningful way.”

The exclusive tournament will feature food, live entertainment, and an open bar, which are all included in the buy-in package. Final table finishers will win a number of prize packages, including NFL ticket, NBA and concert tickets, restaurant nights, poker lessons from top pros and much more. Confirmed special guests for the event include Hank Azaria, Olivier Busquet, Billy Crudup, Erik Seidel and Richard Kind.

“Poker and social justice: now that’s a winning pair! We are thrilled to work with these extraordinary poker players to host such an exciting event — all in support critical, free legal services for our City’s most vulnerable populations,” said Doug Lasdon, Executive Director and Founder of the Urban Justice Center.

For 30 years, the Urban Justice Center has served New York City’s most vulnerable residents through a combination of direct legal service, systemic advocacy, community education and political organizing. They assist their clients on numerous levels, from one-on-one legal advice in soup kitchens, to helping individuals access housing and government assistance, to filing class action lawsuits to bring about systemic change.
