Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic Dominates

This week in poker news was filled with updates on the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic preliminary events.

Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic

Internet professional Jared Hamby, known to the online world as "TheWacoKidd," won two events within five days at the Five Star World Poker Classic. On April 10, Hamby won the $2,500 no-limit hold'em event that attracted 251 players. He beat Jeff Shulman heads up to win $223,780. Less than a week later, he won the $2,000 buy-in event. He played through a field of 483 players and took home $298,955. Hamby earned $522,735 in one week.

Jesse Martin won the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic $2620 buy-in preliminary event for $289,740. He outlasted 330 players. Scott Clements won $163,205 for second. Clements has nearly $1 million in tournament wins.

Anna Wroblewski, age 21, won the $3,000 buy-in no limit hold'em event nine at the Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic. First place was awarded over $337,000, a World Poker Tour Championship event seat, and a gold bracelet. She defeated Jonathon Dull heads up, and eliminated Erick Lindgren in eighth place and Peter Feldman in fourth along the way. Wroblewski parlayed a $300 paycheck into her two cashes in preliminary events.

Online Poker

PokerStars Sunday Million boasted a field of 7,109 entrants, making the prize pool $1,421,800. Well-known online poker pro James "jcamby33" Campbell and chickx made a by-the-chips chop when they got heads up and played for the remaining $30,000. Five minutes after a deal was made, jcamby33's pocket kings were all in against chickx's Q-J offsuit for the win. Campbell's kings held up, winning a total of $180,000.

Full Tilt ran its monthly $750,000-guaranteed. The $500 buy-in tournament had 1,647 entrants, making the prize pool $823,500. DuckU took the first place prize of $152,347.50, while Internet pro Matt "mattg1983" Graham placed second for $93,879.

UltimateBet's $200,000-guaranteed tournament hosted 973 players but was still short of the guarantee, and the site needed to come up with $5,400. Internet pro Garrett "Gfcukinbecks" Beckman finished first, taking $45,000, and lamp3122 came in second, receiving $26,500.

Bodog's $100,000-guaranteed tournament lured 927 players, generating a prize pool of $92,700, leaving Bodog to pick up the $7,300 difference. Veteran In Love won $25,000 for first, and Vatche received $14,000 for second.

Absolute Poker is looking to reward consistent play with its $1,000 AP Challenge. All tournaments from Sunday through Saturday will enter their top finishers into a $1,000 freeroll that takes place every Sunday at 6:15 p.m. ET.

World Poker Tour

World Poker Tour Enterprises announced that it will not be filming the upcoming Grand Prix de Paris at the Aviation Club de France due to game regulations. The tournament will still take place, but may turn out a smaller field.

The World Poker Tour has announced that it will be adding another official casino member to the list of 14 international stops. Spain's Casino Barcelona will host an event in October 2007 that will be aired during season six of the WPT.

Other Poker News

Jennifer Harman held a press conference at the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to discuss her charity tournament set for April 20. The event featured a $300 donation as buy-in and $200 re-donation for the first hour. First place was to receive a $10,000 World Series of Poker main event seat. Harman told the crowd how much she loves animals and is excited to be hosting the tournament.

Pokertek, a company that makes electronic tables that eliminate the use of cards, chips and dealers, has announced an exclusive multi-year partnership with Harrah's. PokerTek will have rights to the World Series of Poker brand to create specially designed tables to its customers. It has not yet been specified which Harrah's properties will install the PokerTek tables.

The Bellagio Cup III $10,000 championship event schedule to take place this summer during the World Series of Poker, has partnered with the World Poker Tour. The tournament will be filmed and aired on the WPT. The winner will receive a $25,000 seat into the WPT Championships as part of the deal.

The wife of poker professional William Gustafik is facing charges for allegedly stabbing her husband to death during a domestic dispute Friday. Gustafik's body was found in the master bedroom of the couple's unit at Panorama Towers just west of the Las Vegas strip. Gustafik's wife, Jill Rockcastle, was found unconscious in a hotel room in San Luis Obispo on Monday.

ESPN recently announced the names of the World Series of Poker events that will be filmed for broadcast. This year, the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event will be filmed in its entirety and will be shown in six one-hour segments. The main event will have 16 hours of television coverage.
