Arkansas Supreme Court Declines To Reconsider Casino IssueVoters Won't Get To Weigh In On Gambling Next Month |

Arkansas won’t be home to Las Vegas-style casinos anytime soon, as the state Supreme Court on Friday declined to reconsider its decision to strike a casino question from the November ballot.
The ballot measure would have allowed voters to weigh in on whether the state should have three casinos. The Arkansas Supreme Court determined that the ballot measure called for sports books, which are illegal under federal law.
Backers of the measure said that sports betting wasn’t an essential part of the plan to keep gambling dollars in the state, according to a report from the Associated Press.
The court disagreed, saying previously: “It is not required that the ballot title contain a synopsis of the proposed amendment, but it should be complete enough to convey an intelligible idea of the scope and import of the proposal.”
While sports betting is legal in just a few states, a Congressman from New Jersey said just last week that he wants to introduce legislation that would presumably allow states to opt in or out to a federal regulatory structure.
