The 2016 World Poker Tour Five Diamond Poker Classic $10,400 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event is one for the history books. With registration officially closed the total number of entries in the Bellagio’s flagship poker tournament swelled to 791, building a massive prize pool of $7,672,700. As a result the tournament set the record for the largest turnout in it’s history, topping the 664-player turnout of 2007 when the event was a $15,400 buy-in.
In fact this event’s field not only set that record but also tied the record for the largest field in WPT history with a buy-in of $10,000 or more, matching the turnout of the previous record-holding 2007 WPT L.A. Poker Classic.
With such a huge turnout the top 72 finishers will make the money, with a min-cash being worth $22,251. The top nine places all award six-figure paydays, but of course every remaining player really has their hopes set on the title, the trophy and the first-place prize of $1,938,118.
The runner-up will also notch a seven-figure score, taking home $1,124,051.
Registration remained open in the event until well into the evening on day 2. At the end of the day only 270 players remained. The largest stack in the room heading into day 3 according the the WPT live updates is Ryan Hughes with 364,400. Notable names with big stacks heading into day 3 include Jennifer Tilly (279,100), Anthony Spinella (226,700), David Pham (224,300) and Justin Bonomo (219,800).
Plenty of big stars did not survive the day including Phil Hellmuth, Michael Mizrachi, Gus Hansen, Erik Seidel, Anthony Zinno and Ari Engel.
