A total of 18 players turned out for the 2017 Aussie Millions $100,000 super high roller no-limit hold’em event, creating a $1,700,000 AUD prize pool. That means that the top three finishers will make the money, with the eventual champion set to take home $882,000.
After one day of play only seven players remain with a shot at the title and the top prize. German pro Steffen Sontheimer is the chip leader with 451,000 in chips, but high-roller superstar Fedor Holz is not far behind with 394,500.
Holz, who ‘retired’ as a full-time poker pro in 2016 after putting together one of the most incredible years in live tournament history, finished sixth in this event last year. Although he had numerous super high roller title under his belt, he has never won an event at the Aussie Millions.
The final seven players in this event will have several days off before play resumes to allow them time to participate in the Aussie Millions $10,000 AUD no-limit hold’em main event, which will run from Jan. 22 – 29.
Cards will get back in the air for the super high rollers on Jan. 28 at 2:00 PM local time. Live streaming coverage of the final table, hosted by Jason Somerville on Twitch, will kick off shortly after.
