Doug Polk is one of the world’s most accomplished heads-up players, having played against the toughest competition at the highest stakes and come out on top. This makes two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and Upswing Poker coach the perfect person to help you take your heads-up game to the next level.

Upswing Poker's Doug PolkUpswing Poker has teamed up with Card Player to bring you some exclusive introductory poker strategy content, and in honor of the release of the new heads-up course this sample video covers some heads-up no-limit hold’em strategy, sepcifically how to approach playing the button.

“The first thing I want to address is … should we be limping the button? In general, my answer is going to be no. As you get into more shallow stack sizes you’re going to want to work in a decent amount of limping, but I’m going to focus on playing deep stacked,” says Polk early in the video. “When you limp there are a lot of problems, the biggest of which is that when you limp you aren’t as able to win the pot preflop, which is huge… You want a chance to just take the blinds down preflop and deny your opponent their equity.”

Check out the full video at the top of the story for more of Polk’s analysis of heads-up play, and if you appreciate Polk’s advice be sure to check out his ‘Advanced Heads-Up Mastery’ course on Upswing Poker.
