The $3,000 no-limit hold’em shootout event at the 2017 World Series of Poker drew a field of 369 players, creating a total prize pool of $996,300. In the end, the title and the $229,923 first-place prize went to Katy, Texas resident Upeshka De Silva.
This was the 29-year-old’s second career bracelet. In 2015, he took down a $1,500 no-limit hold’em event for $424,577. De Silva, who was born in Sri Lanka, now has more than $1.7 million in career tournament earnings.
To win the event, a player had to win three consecutive single-table tournaments. Everyone who won their first table finished in the money and was guaranteed at least $6,407.
Notables at the final table included Taylor Paur (10th), Jean Gaspard (9th), Olivier Busquet (5th) and Jan Schwippert (4th). Others who finished in the money included Matt Glantz (43rd), James Obst (41st), Andy Philachack (36th), Jean-Robert Bellande (31st), Andre Akkari (23rd), John Racener (21st), Jared Jaffee (20th), Barry Greenstein (19th), and Dominik Nitsche (13th).
