Laws In Country Favor Play Over The Internet

A Bollywood actress was accused of playing the oldest card game of all.

Card games come in a variety of formats, but the most common one to hit the headlines has nothing to do with cards per se. When it comes to playing the race, sexism or disability card, newspapers can’t get enough of any juicy story that involves a famous celebrity or two. Bollywood filmmaker Farah Khan is one woman who has had enough of it and urged Bollywood’s female stars to put their sexism cards away once and for all and settle any differences with the men on an equal footing.

The Kangana Ranaut saga

Khan was speaking to reporters from the Hindistan Times in the run up to her new TV show, and was clearly taking a pot shot at Kangana Ranaut, the Bollywood actress who has been hitting the headlines in recent weeks with lurid tales of her relationship with major industry players Hrithik Roshan, Aditya Pancholi and Adhyayan Suman.

Kangana has made allegations of abuse, and has even gone so far as to say she fears for her life. Yet the way she has gone about her counter attack, sharing sensationalist stories and private pictures with the popular press, has not impressed Khan.

She said: “I believe feminism is about equality. I always look at these things with a different perspective. Imagine if in this case, the man spoke like the woman, if he was the one who sent the photos. People would have ripped him apart and sent him to jail.”

Taking a gamble online

Away from the craziness and backbiting of Bollywood’s prima donnas, a whole different type of card playing has also been causing ructions in the Indian press. The topic of gambling has always been a contentious one in India. On the one hand, it is a nation that loves a wager, whether it is on a game of poker, a cricket match or the spin of a roulette wheel.

However, throughout most of the country, all forms of gambling are illegal. Except that is not quite true – there is nothing in Indian legislation that prohibits online betting, and Indian nationals are crowding to UK-based sites like https://www.toplivecasino.co.uk/play-live-roulette/ to join in the fun. The dynamic is an interesting one.

The UK is very much seen as the home of online gambling – it is a pastime with which the public and the authorities are comfortable, and is seen as both an enjoyable hobby that can generate big financial rewards for players and an important industry that contributes billions to the UK economy every year. Yet the UK sites are not just for UK players.

They welcome participants from all over the globe, and India is one of the biggest growth areas for online casinos. Interestingly, while online casinos themselves are not permitted in India, there is a whole local industry emerging in which companies act as “middle men,” providing Indian casino fans with links to sites in the UK and elsewhere.

Perhaps the likes of Kangana and Khan should take advantage of this loophole in the casino laws and restrict their card playing to the online variety in future.
