A total of 149 entries were made in the 2017 World Championship of Online Poker $25,000 no-limit hold’em high roller on PokerStars, exceeding the $3 million guaranteed prize pool by over $650,000. In the end, Nick Petrangelo emerged victorious after making a deal three-handed with Bryn Kenney and Bartlomeij “bartek901” Machon. Petrangelo, who plays under the screen name “caecilius”, was awarded $624,676 as the champion. Petrangelo and Kenney are both among the top contenders in the 2017 Card Player Player of the Year race, which only tracks live tournament success. Petrangelo currently sits in 12th place in the standings, while Kenney is the outright leader in the POY standings.
Bartlomeij Machon was the chip leader at the start of the eight-handed final table, and remained in the lead when the three-handed deal was made. Kenney was also quite deep after picking up pocket aces to knock out Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in fourth place ($355,846).
The three made a deal that saw Machon lock up $636,113 while Kenney secured $559,694 and Petrangelo $551,591.That meant that $73,085 and the title remained to play for.
Machon’s stack took a hit early on in three-handed play. He ultimately was eliminated when he ran 44 into Petrangelo’s 99 and failedto come from behind. After that hand Petrangelo took a slight lead into heads-up play with Kenney.
Petrangelo was able to stretch his advantage to better than 6-to-1 by the time the final hand came down. With a flop of K96 all of the chips got in with Kenney holding the K4 for top pair and Petragnelo the 96 for bottom two pair. The 7 on the turn and J on the river secured the pot and the title for Petrangelo, sending Kenney to the rail with $559,694.
