Las Vegas-based Scientific Games Corporation and NYX Gaming Group Limited said last week that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Scientific Games will acquire the Canadian firm in a deal worth $630 million.

The acquisition creates a “global digital gaming and lottery powerhouse,” the companies said. Scientific Games also said it will be “perfectly positioned” to capitalize on future opportunities in the sports betting realm.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to soon consider a repeal of a 1992 federal law that virtually banned sports betting nationwide in America.

“This important transaction creates a global gaming and lottery powerhouse,” said Kevin Sheehan, Scientific Games’ President and Chief Executive Officer. “Scientific Games will be a stronger industry leader offering one of the broadest end-to-end portfolios of engaging content, innovative technologies and digital products and services across gaming and lottery.”

Scientific Games has been making major moves over the last several years. In 2014, the company merged with slot machine firm Bally Technologies for $5 billion. Bally acquired Shuffle Master the previous year for $1.3 billion. Also in 2013, Scientific Games bought slot machine maker WMS Industries for $1.5 billion.

Scientific Games said earlier this year that it is buying U.K.-based internet casino company Red7Mobile for an undisclosed sum.
