The poker world will be giving back in a big way this Friday, Nov. 3, when the Charity Series of Poker rolls into Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa to host the fourth-annual Against All Odds Celebrity Poker Tournament to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The competitive night of poker hosted by actor Geoff Stults will be chock-full of professional poker players such as Mike Sexton, Jennifer Harman, Todd Brunson, Danielle Moon-Andersen, Eric Wasserson, Jeff Madsen, Dan Heimiller, Bill Edler and the event co-chair for the evening, six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu.
Another top poker pro who will appear at the event is CSOP Founder and President Matt Stout.
“This is actually our first year partnering with St. Jude for the Against All Odds tournament, and I’m excited for the event,” said Stout. “They said that up until now, it’s been more of a traditional black tie affair, very formal. I think that with the help of the poker community, we can really liven things up while still raising a lot of money for a great cause.”
Stout, who has more than $7.5 million in combined live and online tournament earnings, established the Charity Series of Poker in 2014 and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations such as Three Square, Habitat For Humanity, Maximum Hope Foundation, Ellie DIPG Research Fund, and The Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
“I started the CSOP in the first place because I saw a really good opportunity to bring poker and some amazing charities together. The poker community always had a good reputation for being generous, always giving freely whenever called upon, but there was nobody really putting together great charity events that were constant annual affairs. It was just a lot of random, one-off events. The CSOP promotes awareness for these reputable and effective charities, and the players can trust that they’ll get a well-run tournament and great time.”
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a world leader in the pediatric treatment and research of catastrophic diseases. But despite the hefty $2.4 million cost to run the facility each day, parents and loved ones never have to see a bill because of fundraisers like the Against All Odds Celebrity Poker Tournament and the CSOP.
“The research done at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is shared around the world,” said Negreanu. “Every hospital in every community benefits and needs our support. It brings me great satisfaction to know that the poker community is coming together to help St. Jude focus on what matters most – saving children’s lives.”
The $750 buy-in will not only allow players to help a worthy cause, but also give them a shot a winning a seat into the 2018 WSOP main event. The runner-up in the tournament will earn a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera, compliments of Card Player Cruises, and the third-place finisher will win a two-night stay in a luxury suite at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.
There’s even a bonus bet! Anyone who manages to flop a royal flush will instantly win a 2017 Lexus NX, courtesy of Lexus of Las Vegas. In addition to the poker action, players will enjoy a live auction, as well as an after party, along with dinner and a premium open bar.
Celebrities in attendance will include Jennie Garth, Joshua Malina, Brett Raymer, Connor Fields, Gus Kensworthy, David Sutcliffe, and others.
