The Card Player Poker Tour rolled into the Venetian for a $3,500 main event as part of the December Extravaganza, a 15-event tournament series with more than $900,000 in guarantees.
Much like the rest of the tournament series, the main event proved to be a hit, with 138 entries so far and registration open for an additional four levels on Saturday for day 2. That leaves the event just short of it’s $500,000 guarantee, which will easily be surpassed with even a modest day 2 turnout.
After eight levels of action, only 70 players survived to bag up for the evening, led by 2014 WSOP Seniors event champion, Dan Heimiller. The 55-year-old also finished third in the 2016 CPPT Venetian main event for $237,719.
Heimiller bagged up an astounding 342,800, or a little less than nine starting stacks. His next closest competitor was Almedin Imsirovic with 211,900.
Other notables who survived the day with healthy stacks included Chris Moorman (108,700), Ryan Laplante (98,200), Joseph Cheong (92,400), Ankush Mandavia (87,000), Byron Kaverman (80,500), Matt Glantz (80,200), Jordan Cristos (79,300), and Kevin MacPhee (68,100).
The action resumes Saturday at noon for day 2. Here’s a look at the top of the overnight chip counts.
