Indiana’s newest casino opened last week, and it was also a first for the state.
The Four Winds Casino South Bend, which kicked of its games on Jan. 16, is the first tribal casino in the Hoosier state. The casino comes from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, an operator of three casinos in neighboring Michigan.
Four Winds South Bend is equipped with about 1,800 gambling machines, according to the tribe. The casino has 175,000 square feet. There aren’t any table games, nor a poker room.
Indiana now has 14 gambling facilities, which includes 12 casinos and two racinos. The state has a casino gambling market worth about $2.2 billion annually, but revenues have been flat in face of competition from neighboring states.
In an effort to keep the Indiana gambling industry competitive, state lawmakers have already began discussing regulated sports betting should the Supreme Court allow it.
