New AGA President and CEO Bill MillerThe American Gaming Association (AGA) named Bill Miller as the organization’s new president and chief executive officer on Tuesday, replacing Geoff Freeman, and interim CEO Stacy Papadopolous.

The former Senior Vice President at the US Chamber of Commerce, spent the better part of two decades lobbying in Washington, most recently as the Senior Vice Present at Business Roundtable. Prior to that, he was also a chief of staff for a Maryland congressional representative.

The hire is a stablizing move for the AGA during a boom for the U.S. commercial gambling market thanks to the Supreme Court’s May ruling that overturned a federal sports betting ban. A total of 20 states saw revenue growth in 2017, and there are now seven states that offer sports betting, with a dozen more considering it.

“I am honored to join a team with a well-earned reputation for advancing the casino gaming industry’s legislative and communications priorities and addressing the issues that matter most to its members,” said Miller in a press release. “Much to the AGA’s credit, this is a remarkable time for gaming in America. The industry is growing, acceptance of gaming as mainstream entertainment has never been higher and the opportunities to continue to advance gaming’s agenda are abundant. I am eager to help lead the industry in this next era.”

The AGA was founded in 1994 and led from its inception until 2013 by former Republican Party Chairman Frank Fahrenkopf. Freeman took the reigns until July of this year, when he became the CEO and President of the Grocery Manufacturers Assocation.

In addition to lobbying on behalf of the gaming industry, and serving as an information hub for commerical casino market data, the AGA also sponsors the Global Gaming Expo (G2E).
