Worried patrons at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, Nevada alerted casino employees to the presence of a man wandering the property with a handgun on New Years Day.
After being confronted by hotel security in the East Tower lobby, the unnamed man reportedly drew his weapon. Two of the three responding security guards then opened fire, fatally wounding the man. Henderson Police Dept. Lt. Kirk Moore said it was unknown if the man discharged his weapon or how many total shots were fired, but witnesses reported hearing six.
Emergency personnel tried to revive the man at the scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. Nobody else was hurt in the incident.
Incredibly, the casino resumed action almost immediately after containing the situation. In fact, within a couple of hours, reporters were already talking with gamblers at the scene who had no idea a shooting had even occurred.

Police have remained tight-lipped about the shooting so far, stating that its an ongoing investigation.
Nevada is an open-carry state, which means anybody can carry their firearm on their person as long as its visible. Concealed weapons permits can also be obtained.
It is not a crime to openly carry a gun in Nevada casinos, but most casinos, including Green Valley Ranch, have signs posted prohibiting firearms, and will ask anyone with a weapon to leave the premises. The law, however, does not exclude casinos from open-carry exemptions. That distinction only applies to federal buildings, schools, day care facilities, and airports.
