Nevada Poker Rooms Generate $120 Million In 2018Despite Slight Increase From 2017, Poker Revenue Paled In Comparison To Sports Betting Revenue For The Year |

According to a report by David Schwartz of the UNLV Center for Gaming Research, Nevada’s poker revenue was only about 40 percent of what sports betting brought in to the state in 2018.
Poker rooms in Nevada generated $120.083 million in 2018. The number is up slightly from 2017 when the state generated $118.455 million from the poker tables, but still pales in comparison to the record $301 million generated from sports betting in 2018.
Poker revenue predictably spikes every year during June and July due to the World Series of Poker taking place at the Rio. The average monthly revenue in 2018 was just over $10 million, but poker rooms took in $17.483 million in June and another $11.966 million in July.
June 2018 was the state’s second-best month ever for poker revenue. It was topped only by July 2007 when the state’s poker rooms generated $17.661 million in revenue.
The average number of poker tables running in the state was 600 per month. Thanks to added tables in the Rio during the WSOP, the average number of tables spiked to 688 during those months. January, April, July, September and October all saw year-over-year revenue decline from 2017.
Nevada poker was at its peak between 2006-2008 when poker rooms in the state were generating an average monthly revenue of $13 million, but has always paled in comparison to sports betting. Even its best year in 2007, when the state generated $167.991 million in revenue from poker, was still just over half of 2018’s sports betting take.
