Gianluca ‘Tankanza’ Speranza defeated a total field 662 entries to win the 2019 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) $10,300 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event on PokerStars, earning $1,028,203 for successfully defending his title in this event. Speranza had won this same tournament in 2018, topping 654 entries that time to earn $1,133,160.
This year Speranza struck a heads-up deal with ’OMGitshunt‘, with the final two agreeing to set aside $100,000 and the title to play for. ’OMGitshunt‘ locked up $924,096, which is what he ultimately took home after Speranza was able to close out the victory.
Three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Adrian ‘Amadi_017’ Mateos was awarded $81,377 as the 10th-place finisher, while two-time WSOP champ Nick ‘caecilius’ Petrangelo earned $127,290 for his eighth-place showing in this event.
Dinesh ‘NastyMinder’ Alt finished third for $604,383 when his flopped two pair lost to the rivered gutshot of Speranza.
Speranza was able to build more than a 4-to-1 chip lead by the time the final hand arose. He limped in for 700,000 with A6 and OMGitshunt raised to 2,190,000 with QJ. Speranza moved all-in and OMGitshunt called for around 10.5 million more. The board came down 97557 and Speranza’s ace high was enough to secure the final pot.
