France's Jeremy Saderne Takes Down The 2019 World Series Of Poker Mini Main Event

The inaugural Mini Main Event at the World Series of Poker proved to be a hit, drawing a massive field of 5,521 players and creating an overall prize pool of $4,968,900.

The tournament, which saw players start with 60,000 in chips while playing 30-minute levels, needed an extra day on top of the scheduled two to bring the event to a conclusion. Eventually, French poker player Jeremy Saderne emerged from the pack to earn the title, his first bracelet, and the $628,654 first-place prize.

The 27-year-old, who now resides in London, had to top an international final table that also included representatives from the U.S., China, Ireland, Argentina, Japan, and Switzerland. This was France’s second win of the 2019 series. Thomas Cazayous won the $3,000 no-limit hold’em six-max shootout for $414,766.

“I’m feeling very good,” Saderne told WSOP reporters. “I can’t imagine winning a tournament with more than 5,000 people… especially this one when the tournament is very, very fast. You have to have good cards, and I just ran so good.”

This was Saderne’s best score at the summer series by far, although he did earn $364,573 last summer for his runner-up performance in a $1,500 DeepStack Championship Poker Series event at the Venetian.

In addition to the money, Saderne also earned 1,320 Card Player Player of the Year points for his win. The POY is sponsored by Global Poker.

Other notables who made a deep run in the event included Jeff Madsen (14th), Senovio Ramirez (28th), James Dempsey (29th), Blair Hinkle (33rd), and Nipun Java (51st).
