MGM Resorts Plans Community Center For Site Of Las Vegas Mass ShootingNew Facility Will Also Include A Public Memorial For 58 Who Were Killed During Country Music Festival |

MGM Resorts International has announced their plans for the Village, the site of the Route 91 Harvest, a country music festival that was marred in October of 2017 when a gunman perpetrated the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The lot, which sits across the street from the Mandalay Bay and Luxor on the Las Vegas Strip, will eventually be turned into a community and athletic center. The site will also include a public memorial for the 58 victims who lost their lives, and may one day host youth sporting events, potentially becoming a practice facility for the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.
“We know that for many, the Village property will forever be linked to the tragic loss of life that took place on Oct. 1,” MGM wrote in a statement. “We will never forget the victims and all of those impacted by that evening. As the second anniversary nears, we remain committed to being part of the community effort to continue healing and moving forward.”
MGM didn’t announce any dates for the project, and in the meantime, will use the site for event parking at Allegiant Stadium, the future home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.
In July of 2018, MGM filed a complaint in federal court, asking a judge to agree that the casino company wasn’t liable for the shooting, which occurred on MGM-owned Mandalay Bay property. According to a May report, however, MGM Resorts could be considering an $800 million settlement with the victims.
