The World Poker Tour’s Vince Van Patten has released his latest gambling project, the prop-bet comedy film 7 Days to Vegas.
Van Patten, who was the lead in the movies The Break, and Hell Night, co-wrote the film with Steve Alper, and plays the lead in a cast that includes his wife, soap opera star Eileen Davidson, and brother James Van Patten.
The former tennis pro plays Duke Madson, a Hollywood home game organizer who cleans up at the tables and usually comes out on top when the group starts gambling on everything but the cards. That is, until hot-shot director Sebastian muscles his way into the game.
The two cardsharps engage in an escalating rivalry that eventually ends with Duke agreeing to walk from his home in Los Angeles to Las Vegas in seven days, while wearing a suit no less, in a bet inspired by Doyle Brunson and Jack Binion. There is millions on the line, and nobody is playing straight up as the gang of misfits trails Duke in tricked-out RV.
Van Patten called the movie a cross between The Hangover and The Sting, but twists that come from the con-man characters also brings to mind movies like Focus and Matchstick Men.
Chicago Sun-Times critic Richard Roeper gave the movie three out of four stars, and even enjoyed it enough to host a private screening of it in early September.
“Gambling insiders will recognize the authentic representation of that world throughout the movie,” Roeper wrote in his review. “But even if you don’t know a busted straight from a royal flush and you’ve never heard of a prop bet until now, 7 Days to Vegas works as a broad and funny comedy about some truly bent but hilarious characters.”
The cast also include notables such as Ross McCall (Band Of Brothers), Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya), Willie Garson (Sex And The City), Lucas Bryant (Haven), Don Stark (That ‘70s Show), John O’Hurley (Seinfeld), and Chad Lowe (Pretty Little Liars). The film also features cameos from poker players Antonio Esfandiari, Mike Sexton, Jennifer Tilly, and Phil Laak.
7 Days To Vegas is available now on iTunes, Amazon, and Vudu to rent or buy. Check out the trailer below.
